melbourne do alot of things better than us Sydney folk. first it was the fashion + design thing. then they were stealing our sporting events and weather. well, Sydney are trying to get some fight back with The City of Sydney hosting free seminars to help people set up new small bars - a push for a melbourne-like, cosmopolitan dream. The result, mini-bars like Pocket Bar in Darlinghurst, charming little things poping up around the city. A complete opposite to the mega hyped, super bars we thought we wanted (say, Ivy anyone?), Pocket Bar has a capacity of 60, expected to all squeeze in to what was once a garage (well still is, complete with roller door entry). What's more interesting, is squeeze in they do, because this little-engine-that-could has been pumping out now famous crepes and cocktails for peanuts, perfect for an after work sip. Also take note of the bar/cafe's Optimism rule, which gives 20% final bill discounts to those who have recently been stupid infringements such as parking fines.
